Festival

Once upon a time,

in a not so far away land.

there was a festival.

a festival of colors one could say.

witches were burned.

indian powder was thrown.

some hair was ruined.

along with some clothes.

but in the moral of the story is.

chalk throwing parties are the best. thing. ever.

Debatable.

So a couple of weeks ago i was in line at the pharmacy. there was only two people working and this one worker had been talking to the same old lady for whole time i was in line. i'm not going to lie, i was pretty irriated with this old lady? how long does it take to get your prescription and go?

get up to the front of the line and i overhear the following conversation:

"i just don't understand".

"well, ma'am if you're medication isn't covered by your medicare then you have to pay the difference for the pills"

" i need these prescriptions... i was just diagnosed with diabetes. where i am suppose to get that kind of money?"

"i'm sorry ma'am"

i glance over at her total and it reads $336.87.

now, i am cannot be categorized as pro-healthcare constituant and i'm certainly not a supporter of a bill that no one has yet to read. but when i hear and experience  stories like this, i can't help but wonder. are we going to let our government stand by and do nothing to assist these kinds of people?

is healthcare a right or a privilege?

should only a select few  benefit from all the vast medical research out there?

anyway, for those who care (and probably a lot of you don't) here are some pretty good articles that show the pros and cons for universal healthcare bill that was passed on sunday and signed on tuesday.

should be interesting.

in theory, it sounds great for social america and helping those who truly need help.

but in reality,  it will probably dump our barely rejuvenated economy straight down the crapper.

here are some articles i found insightful.

Good Hair

To be or not to be that is the question.

that might have been Hamlet's question about life or death but mine is equally as dramatic...

my life might be death if my hair isn't looking good.

So, I'm having this inner hair struggle. it's like in the movies with the shoulder angel/devil. one is whispering "stef, don't dye your hair dark again... remember me your blonde friend? all the fun times we had together? Laying out by the pool, and soaking up the sun?"

then this new shoulder devil dude comes along and is like "wow. that dark hair looks really good. Blonde who? That dark hair makes your eyes look good... You don't want to join the ranks of those blondes... come to stay dark with me"

ok. that might be a slight overstatement but if i did have shoulder peeps i'm sure that would be their conversation.

but seriously?

what's a girl to do? especially when her current color is fading and roots are popping through...

A Birthday Ode

Yesterday was a day that will forever be remembered.

Margarette/Marcus/Mark/Margo/MMMMMARG/Maggie/Marjorie Pay/Margrit/Margiedoodlepie- my roommate-is officially an old lady.

she's 20 which means she's halfway to 40! You old hag!

she will never be able to experience the joys of being a  teen parent but now she is a mature, wise (instead of wise talking) adult.

supposedly.

anyway, the day was full of yelling, singing, yahooing, whispering, skypeing, baking, cleaning, napping, screaming, and many other joyeous celebration activites. Water was thrown, cakes were slightly burned, games were played, and lots of yummy (and some not so yummy) food was shared.

We were making us some memories .

Happy Birthday Marg! We all love you (more like love teasing you)

Lazy Sundays

well first off can i just say that

Sunday afternoon naps are probably the best thing ever...

girls crave flowers and chocolate from cute boys but really if they just curl up for a couple of hours and catch a few zzzz's then
 it's all good
The Spaninards got it right with the whole "siesta" thing.

you should probably go test it out for yourself.

 anyway, a couple of things.

My roommates and i went and saw "The Blind Side" with Sandra Bullock and
Tim McGraw (who was a little weird but funny)

It was one of the most refreshing movie's i've seen in a while.

a solid, simple, over-coming-oppression-and-changing-lives-along-the-way kind of film.

bottom line:

they just don't make 'em like this one anymore.

Sandra Bullock was pleasantly surprising and now i can say she received a well deserved Oscar for her performance.

that's the good news.

the bad news is that once again, my cougs lets me down this week.
 but not without a fight
The Mountain West Conference Men's Championship was held in Las Vegas this past weekend and we were seated number two. We won, with some light hesitation, against the TCU Horned Frog
( aside- who makes their mascot a horned frog? Seriously? I'd rather be a politically incorrect Indian than a horned frogs-if frogs even have horns)

SO, then we played UNLV. which we've struggled against before. i swear we just have a mental block against playing UNLV at UNLV.
we lost by three
Luckily, New Mexico ( who was #1 in the conference) lost too.
but still frustrating for my guys.
i'm still not really over it.

so now on to play with the big boys in the NCAA tournament
ohhhhhhhh man. it's going to be interesting.

i hope Jimmer's on fire and Tavarani sits his butt on the bench the whole game.

Just For The Record

For all ya'll out there who care....

this was me today.

no death or deadly injuries.

just for your information.

that's all.

Friday, March 5, 2010

Well this weekend my dad and sis are out in Salt Lake... which means one thing

we are going
snowboarding/skiing

which  means that tomorrow could potentially end up being really good like this...

or really bad like this....

( the more likely outcome)

either way it should be an adventure for sure.

it doesn't help that i only going snowboarding twice (if that) a year.
i just have to find the shaun white that i know it buried somewhere deep down inside of me.
hopefully all limbs will be in place so i can post yet another post in the distant future.

wish me luck.

People Of The Week

Well the People of the Week are :

...drumroll...

1. Celine Dion

When it comes to singing aloud ( and off key) to
cheesy power love songs,
Celine is my girl.

A great self-esteem booster as long as the volume is turned up high

2. Nelson Mandela

Need i say more?

Sometimes you just forget how awesome he is right?

I am the Master of my Fate,
I am the Captain of my Soul

( sidenote- if you haven't seen the film "Invictus" with
Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon check it out)

3. King Henry

We (meaning the Trash Hole) will have the pleasure of residing
at the lovely, if distant, King Henry Apartments
throughout the course of our junior year.
Hopefully, we will have just as much fun
as the great king did during his day (less scandalous though)

4. Tracy  "My Push Up Bra WIll Help Me Get My Man Back" from the wonderful Youtube.

this is just straight up funny.
check it out here.
